Week 4 | Book 4 - Who Thought This Was A Good Idea?

“Who Thought This Was A Good Idea”

By Alyssa Mastromonaco

Recently I watch former president, Barack Obama speak at the funeral of Senator Harry Reid.

While watching his incredible oratory style and listening to his command of leadership, I was reminded of a book I read a few years back, “Who Thought This Was A Good Idea.” Although this book is not a technical leadership read in the style of Drucker or Covey, it is a compelling look at leadership from the eyes of an instrumental member of one of the highest impact teams in the world.

There are countless lessons that can be learned from these pages, including:

- Being young shouldn’t be a limitation,

- Obama never held a grudge … great leaders should share this attribute,

- Always be prepared to defend your position, preparation cannot be understated,

- humility is key… you are never the smartest person in the room and even Obama never shied away from asking for help,

- and, you never know how work experience (of all types of jobs - the more varied the better) will come in handy!

In the end, this is a book where Alyssa slyly shares he deep wisdom through disarming stories and personal experiences.
