Together: Working on the weekend

On occasion I'll be out with someone who does not work in schools and they'll say something like, "I think I could handle being a teacher... the holidays are great!"

I cannot disagree, it is nice to have extended  time off with our friends and family at Christmas, Spring and the Summer!  However, sometimes I feel like the balance of this 'teacher time off' equation is missed, and this past weekend was a prime example.

At our schools we:

- Hosted 2 basketball tournaments
- Travelled nearly 1000 km to other basketball tournaments
- Logged nights on supervision in towns across Alberta
- Travelled to watch our students perform in professional dancing performances
- Coached students in speech and debate competitions
- Hosted a Children's Christmas Party for nearly 100 kids of our staff
- Volunteered at Calgary charities
- Coached Wrestlers in Edmonton
- Wrote and revised scripts for original upcoming plays
- Marked, planned, organized...

Not for one minute are we complaining - we do it because we love it.  That said, sometimes, actually often, this love takes us well beyond the 9-3 (with weekends and summers off) that we see if we take a quick glance at the work.

Thank you to all the members of our community who continue to go above and beyond to make Rundle the amazing place it is!
