Together: The importance of school culture

CAIS’s Executive Director, Patti MacDonald, spoke early this afternoon about school culture and the importance of ‘standing for something.’  One insightful quote that was shared to illuminate the priority of a strong culture is:

“If a school does not stand for something more profound than raising student achievement levels, then it probably does not make a memorable difference to teachers, students or parents,”
Terrence E. Deal.

Furthermore, Mrs. MacDonald compelled us all to think about what each of our ‘Extraordinary Missions’ are and how these will inspire families to continue to support our school communities.

To bring this home to Rundle, I often think about Dr. Conklin’s profound thoughts about ‘taking more pride in moving a student from 50% to 70% than from moving students from 90% to 95%’ and ‘the best teachers [Rundle’s teachers] are able to see through the student’s eyes.’  I believe that our mission and values support Dr. Conklin’s transformative aspirations. I am proud of our adherence and belief in our Mission, Vision and Values and our tireless pursuit of a culture of excellence.

Thank you to CAIS and to Mrs. MacDonald’s continued focus and pursuit of positive school culture.
