Recently the Washington Post published a fascinating article titled: “Students in high-achieving schools are now named an ‘at-risk’ group, study says.” I am going to resist the urge to summarize the article here, as this is one I think our entire community should read in its entirety.
My brief Rundle take aways are:
- We need to continue to invest in ‘student services’ and co-curricular such as ‘peer support’
- We need to encourage our kids to pursue a life that is balanced with academics, achievement and joy
My favourite statement in the article was, “Our job as parents is to help our children feel unconditionally loved so their self-esteem doesn’t rest on the splendour of their accomplishments.”
I couldn’t agree more.
