Week 2 | Book 2 - When: The Scientific Secrets Of Perfect Timing

When: The Scientific Secrets Of Perfect Timing
By: Daniel H. Pink

Daniel Pink is well known for his breakthrough books such as "Free Agent Nation," "A Whole New Mind," and "Drive."  I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if one, or more of these great options make it into my 52 books this year.  However, I can say with total certainty, Pink's book, "When" is his most applicable book for teachers and leaders.

In "When,"Pink shares countless incredible insights on our chorotypes (not sure what this is.... its enough of a reason to read his book - because they are impactful on everything we do), the importance of taking breaks and the power of fresh starts.

Although I could go into depth on dozens of learnings and how they have impacted my life and work, in this post, I am opting to focus on one, the

"Nappuchino."

According to Pink's research, the perfect nap is between 10-20 minutes long.  In addition, caffeine can be used strategically to help you get through the afternoon energy valley.  Additionally, after consuming caffeine, it takes ~25 minutes for the effect of the caffeine to take hold in your bloodstream.  Hence the Nappuchino!  Pink posits that if you drink a cup of coffee and then promptly take a 15-20 minute nap - when you wake you'll be a cognitive powerhouse when you awake!  Give it a shot!
