On January 6, 2013, I learned something that changed the way I view learning, innovation and idea generation. The pivotal moment was this episode of 60 Minutes where IDEO's founder, David Kelley was interviewed about the design thinking. Notably, David Kelley is the founder of this way of thinking.
A couple years later, I was able to visit the San Fransisco IDEO office and I was blessed to have met their educational lead, Caryn Voskuil. Carny was generous with her time, thoughts and ideas; and it was in those moments, I determined there was no doubt to me that there was incredible value in this process!
What I love most about Design Thinking is the emphasis on empathy in the process, or in other words, "Seeing Through Other's Eyes."
Since those moments in 2013, I am proud to say that we see Design Thinking integrated into all of our schools and across disciplines. Using Design Thinking allows our students (and teachers) to create human-centred approaches to solving problems and creating ideas!
