Together: Vulnerable Moments

This past week, I had the honour of attending our schools' Remembrance Day Ceremonies.  Whether it was the Collett School or the Academy, the ceremonies were inspired events.  From the moment the Kindergarten students walked in to the beautiful singing of the Academy students, it was all very special.

Among these incredible moments, there is one that stands out in my mind.

An Academy student read a letter that her Great Uncle wrote during WWII.  It was a very 'normal' letter by all accounts.  Thanks for the gifts that were sent, thoughts about being abroad and wonderings about current events at home.  As the student finished reading, she acknowledged that shortly after the letter was written, his life was tragically lost.

I was sitting beside a Canadian Veteran and we were both moved in that moment and neither of us really recovered.  There was something so simple and profound about the lived experience and the inhumanity of loss as a result of war or tragedy.

Today, I hope everybody in our community pauses to reflect, remember and give thanks.
