Recently the Harvard Business Review published an entire article on the importance of recognition and appreciation. It can be best summed up in this quote:
"In simple terms, recognition is about what people do; appreciation is about who they are."
I encourage you to give the whole thing a read. But if you don't have the time, do go and let someone know that you appreciate them and why... if for no other reason than it will make the world a better place.
