In early September, Forbes posted the Top 100 Most Innovative Leaders. On the first read, it is an impressive group of people, such as Bezos, Musk, Zuckerberg, Cook and Iger.
However, the most fascinating and appalling part of the list is when you realize that 99% of the named leaders are male. I'm left feeling as though Forbes has missed something here... there are most certainly female leaders from around the world who deserve to be recognized.
The article has left me reflecting on the importance of encouraging strong female leadership in our organization - from students, to teachers, to school admin, to governance. To date, I proud that Rundle continues to embrace women leaders at the highest levels, they lead our board, or schools, our parent groups and our student leadership teams. In fact, it is not uncommon for 80% of our Ascent Leadership Group to be young women who are looking to learn more about change, innovation and leadership. Secondly, I look to our national private school organization, CAIS, and applaud them for continuing to encourage and support strong female leaders. Dozens of our schools and our organization are all lead by amazing women who are changing education for this generation and beyond.
As a school and society, it is my hope that we will continue to value the tremendous leadership advantage that comes with having strong women in positions to lead. Furthermore, I'd love to read a future version of this list and see a balance starting to emerge.
